Long before 50 Cent, Eminem, and even before Snoop Doggy Doggy there was another rapper Dr. Dre knew would soon become a major player in the Hip Hop Game; his name, Tracy Lynn Curry….The D.O.C.
The D.O.C. started as a member of the Fila Fresh Crew and appeared on the compilation N.W.A. & The Posse. Dr. Dre took notice to The D.O.C.’s writing skills; he contributed on a few songs for the ground breaking debut album’s by N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton and Eazy-E’s Eazy Duz It.
In 1989 The D.O.C. dropped his Dr. Dre produced debut album, No One Can Do It Better. The first single, It’s Funky Enough exploded onto the Hip Hop scene, The D.O.C.’s delivery was unique and his lyrics were clever. Though The D.O.C. remained closely connected with N.W.A., No One Can Do It Better was far from a Gangsta Rap album. His music was just that, The D.O.C. wrote about making music. The video shot in
In 1989 just before the release of No One Can Do It Better The D.O.C. was in a car accident that damaged his vocal cords. His voice was never the same. The D.O.C. turned to writing and contributing to a few more soon to be classic albums Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and Snoop Doggy Dogg’s Doggystyle. The D.O.C did manage to release two more post-accident albums, Helter Skelter and Deuce. The D.O.C. remains very well respected in the game and plans on writing a book about the early days of Ruthless Records and Death Row Records. Maybe even a reality TV show chronicling the journey of repairing his vocal cords. Still just from that one album alone, No One Can Do It Better, you can’t help but wonder…. what if????
